You think you have the solution....

You order a drink (your favorite: the next one) and ask the bartender what he knows.

...He knows a lot--rocket science, even--but nothing that will help you on this case.

Just then, your long time acquaintance Sgt. Mulcahey stops by for a drink. He's an old Sergeant on the force. You make the usual jokes for the score between you is never really settled. You make the mistake of making some joke about offering a cane for his upcoming retirement, and he grabs you by the collar.

You try to put the Haymaker on him, and fail. He's still three inches and 80 pounds beyond you. But it's all in good fun until he says, "For fifteen years I've put up with your jokes, Sonny, and I ain't going to do it any longer."

Now you know the fun is going to be serious.

You try to dodge as he takes a swing at you.You fail, he doesn't as that swing connects. The room spins around as you sink to the floor.

Just then five more cops and three friends of the mob show up and there's an awful lot of noise.

You can't quite hear it except for the low rumble of thunder, or is it the sea...as it's all sleepy time for you.

...When you wake up it's all quiet and clear, very clear except what got you into this case in the first place. As you wobble to your feet, the bartender gives you the nod like he's used to it.

At least you got a drink out of it.  And on this case, you may need another.
